I know this has been asked before, but here's it again, in Intelligent discussions...
I'd say AW1 is harder. I have AW2 on ROM and the campaign doesn't seem THAT hard...

Definitely AW1...AC is a lot harder than HC.

I'm saying AW2. It may seem easier, but that's probably from experience with AW1. The AI in AW1 often had a predictable pattern. AW2's is much more random, and they don't fall for some of the more classic tricks from AW1 we all know and love (APC baiting, anyone?). Plus you have to adjust to a variety of COs and mission elements (Black Hole weapons, time limit, etc.). But, of course, that's just my opinion.

Definitely AW, AW2 is a joke.. 300 PT S-rank is far too easy to obtain, on every mission.

Is it even a question? Advance Wars was much more challenging. It had those capture race maps, those things were a b|tch in AC. Not to mention the Final Battle was challenging. Adding all the new gizmo's in AW2 didn't do crap, if anything it made it easier (But it did make things look nice  ). In AW the FoW maps were challenging, the non FoW maps were challenging, in normal campaign, not to mention AC, god, that was one tough S-Rank.
In the end AW2 difficulty wise AW2 is sh|t compared to AW, but feature wise AW2 blows AW out of the sky...

It took me a Year and a Half to complete AW Normal Campaign
But it took me 4 weeks to complete AW2 Normal Campaign

probobly both if i had'nt played the first one the second could have got really hard seeing as their was no feild traning,that made the beggining of campaign torture
